Comparing the distribution landscape for building supplying industries clear differences became visible.
The study aims to define and describe the meaning of wholesale and retail sale in Germany („Großhandel“ and „Einzelhandel“). Additionally, current developments will be considered. For instance, one of the main challenges in the distribution landscape will be outlined: builder merchants and DIY-stores supplement their product range with additional products, leading to more competition especially when it comes to the professional target groups.
The building merchants already sought out new prospects years ago. Similar to the timber trade, the emergence of showrooms was becoming more important for builder merchants. These showrooms increasingly included interior doors, parquet and laminate. Today, new openings or conversions are nearly always equipped with wood products for the floor, doors and partly with wood for the garden.
