In the 2nd quarter of 2026, the business climate in the building technology sector (heating, climate, bathroom supply, technical installations) was +3 points, unchanged from the previous quarter. Since the start of 2025, the figure has thus remained at a largely constant, slightly positive level. The current business climate has improved compared with the first quarter, whilst expectations for the coming quarter are more cautious.

There continue to be significant differences between the various stages of the supply chain. Installation firms rate the economic situation as clearly positive at +17 points, whilst the manufacturing sector is also in positive territory at +6 points. The wholesale sector, by contrast, stands at −13 points and thus continues to view the economic situation negatively.

For the manufacturing sector, export business is currently having a significantly more positive impact than domestic sales. The export business climate stands at +15 points, whilst the domestic climate has fallen to −3 points. This continues a pattern that is also evident in the broader economic environment: key export markets are growing more dynamically than Germany. For 2026, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecasts GDP growth of +0.7 per cent for Germany, compared with +1.3 per cent on average across the EU.
